Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. Period. Now with 3D mammography at Cascade Medical, screenings offer an unprecedented level of detail for better diagnostic confidence and peace of mind.

Mammograms are free during the month of October for women in our hospital district who do not have adequate insurance coverage. To schedule your Think Pink mammogram, call (509) 548-2512.

This was made possible by Think Pink, a partnership between Cascade Medical Foundation, Cascade Medical and local businesses. Local businesses are proudly displaying the bright pink posters, and each business has tailored its contribution, including: The Bubblery, Broken Barrel, Whistlepunk Ice Cream, Happy Happy Fudge, Schocolat, Posy Handpicked Goods, Village Alps, Benchmark Jewelers and The Cheesemonger’s Shop.

Look for fun events to support this great cause at Beyoutiful Hot Yoga, Wildflour, Bushel & Bee Taproom and Icicle Creek Center for the Arts.

One person touched powerfully by Think Pink in 2017 was local Connie Dunn. “I hadn’t gotten a mammogram in years,” Dunn said. “[In 2017] I was shopping at Plain Market, and I saw a flyer advertising ‘Free mammograms for uninsured women.’ I brought it home and set it on the counter.

“I was about to go to Mexico on a vacation for my 60th birthday, and I saw the flyer again as I cleaned up the counter. I was about to crumple it up, and thought, “Why not?” I live in Plain, so the convenience of getting a mammogram in town huge for me. I called and got in that day. I never thought a thing was wrong with me.

“When I returned from vacation, I had a voice message. I had to go in for more testing—another mammogram, an ultrasound and eventually a biopsy. They found early stage-one breast cancer. It all happened so fast. I got the call just before Thanksgiving, and went in for surgery on December 11th, followed by radiation. It went really well, but it was still a journey.

“I think the moral of the story is: Ladies, don’t put it off.”

Since the inception of 3D mammography, Cascade Medical has performed 230 mammograms, a 15 percent increase over the previous year. More information about Think Pink can be found at cascademedicalfoundation.org and also on Cascade Medical Foundation’s Facebook page.
