Cascade Medical launches life-saving training program

Paramedic Mike Ing-Moody, EMS Director Brian Pulse and EMT Lester Stoltz.

Cascade Medical is now offering basic life-saving classes for community members, and advanced certification for healthcare providers and first-responders. More than a dozen dates are available for eight kinds of training, all listed at cascademedical.org/classes-training.

To introduce this new service, our Emergency Medical team will host a free community CPR class at the Leavenworth Fire Hall, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 24. The class will focus on CPR basics, including hands-on practice on CPR mannequins, a written test and certification by the American Heart Association. Space is limited. Sign up by emailing Training Coordinator Shawn Ottley at [email protected].

The goal of the new training programs is to empower the Upper Valley community to save lives, and to offer a convenient, trusted source for healthcare providers, firefighters, law enforcement and other first-responders to stay current on their certifications.

“The trainings are flexible. The dates, the location, and the kind of class we offer -- everything can be tailored to fit our students’ needs,” Ottley said. “We’ve taught a variety of group classes for private businesses, youth sports coaches and the local fire departments.”

A longtime trauma nurse and helicopter paramedic, Ottley began developing the new training program when he arrived at Cascade Medical in 2017. At first, his focus was hospital staff, then local first-responders, and now the community as a whole.

Community classes include:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR and AED
  • AHA Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED
  • Basic Life Support

Cascade Medical will also offer advanced certifications for professionals, regardless of where they work. Advanced courses include:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum
  • Basic ECG (electrocardiogram)
  • Heart Failure Management
  • Vaso-Active: Anti-arrhythmic Medication Management

The cost varies by class, but it covers certification fees, materials and a certified instructor. Group discounts are available. For more information, visit cascademedical.org/classes-training or email Ottley at [email protected].
